Chengdu Court Hears Case On Information Theft

Chengdu Gaoxin Court, located in China’s Sichuan province, held a session yesterday on the first case concerning confidential business data pilfering in the city.

The court says Mr. Huang Xiaolei, who previously worked as a technical engineer at Fei Bo Chuang (Chengdu) Technology Company, took away the company’s GBIC module technology on his laptop computer when he resigned in March 2002. The case against Huang says he then gave the technology to his new employer.

But Mr. Huang defends himself by saying the technology was integrated and developed by himself with the opensource GBIC module technology available on the Internet.

The case is ongoing and the final judgment will be made at a later time.
