Hong Kong Will Punish Email Spammers

According to a new law passed in Hong Kong, email spam senders in the region can face a huge fine and long term imprisonment.

The new law covers all information transmitted via electronic media, including fax, email, mobile phone SMS and pre-recorded voice message. Violators of the law will be fined HK$1 million and face up to five years’ imprisonment.

Marion Lai, deputy director of Hong Kong Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau, introduced to local media that the new law will be executed in two phases, and the first phase will commence this Friday.
