China’s Ministry of Information Industry has published an announcement on its official website that it will cancel the license of 15 service providers offering trans-regional value-added services.

The widespread spam short messages that are troubling Chinese mobile phone users may have something to do with the illegal service providers. MII says that the 15 service providers include Chengdu Jinyu (Group) Communications Holding Co., Ltd.; Yanjiao Information Industry Park Development Co., Ltd.; Tianjin Longteng Telecommunications Technology Co., Ltd.; Shenzhen Sitanfu Computer Integration Co., Ltd.; Guangdong Xunwang Network Technology & Development Co., Ltd.; Shanghai Kuanpin Technology Holding Co., Ltd.; Beijing Ruichi Communications Information Co., Ltd.; Shanghai Securities Information Co., Ltd.; Guangdong Jinzhonghua Communications Service Co., Ltd.; Beijing Yingsi Taike Satelite Communications Technology Co., Ltd.; Shanghai Shiji Xinyuan Information Industry Co., Ltd.; Xi’an Molin Digital Technology (Group) Co., Ltd.; Beijing Guolixin Network Technology Co., Ltd.; Beijing Changjiang Jufeng Technology Co., Ltd.; and Beijing Fengxing Wangbo Network Technology Co., Ltd..

MII will cancel these companies’ service licenses according to the relevant clauses of China’s Administration Permission Law. However, MII says it will delay the cancellation until July 1, 2008 to protect consumers’ interest. MII says during this period, it welcomes any comments or suggestions on the cancellation.
